Meeting with Barangay Sucat Chief to plan for Sign Language course for Barangay Sucat government frontliners so that they can understand those with hearing impairment when they deal with them in the barangay. Birthright agreed to provide the teacher. The barangay will provide the snacks, lunch, and venue for the three Saturdays seminar.
2023 FOURTH QUARTER REPORT
Teacher Miriam del Rosario conducted Family conferences with families of children with disabilities in Barangay Sucat. She also added recommendations to the Individualized Home programs of the children as she saw fit.. These were children not included in the 20 CWD who were meant to have Physical therapy with CPREF. She explained each Home program of the child to the parents.
To provide parents of children with disabilities studying in Birthright with crucial knowledge and insights regarding their special role in supporting and nurturing their children's development and to encourage parents to connect with one another, share their experiences, and foster a supportive community in Birthright., The Role of Parents Workshop - workshop for parents was held. 32 parents participated in the workshop. They discussed the concept of disability, covering impairments, barriers equating to disability, and the importance of accessiblity as a solution. Teacher Miriam del Rosario emphasized the importance of understanding the laws that protect and empower children with disabilities. Afterwards, the groups composed letters dedicated to their children, which were then shared with the other parents.

The Filipino Sign Language Course was spsonsored by Birthright with Barangay Sucat and Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) to train Sucat government workers how to communicate with the deaf in the barangay. The training included learning everyday phrases, ensuring that the community workers could hangle common interactions and practicing simple conversations in sign language. This training was designed to equip comminity workers with the necessary sign language skills to foster inclusive communication within their community. it's not just about mastering signs but also about understanding the cultural nuances of sign language and effectively using it in everyday interactions. There are more than 30 deaf in Barangay Sucat. 30 government workers particiapted in the seminar.
An SRHR, "Body Talk" workshop for 24 Birthright teachers and staff was held at Mt. Olives Turf to increase their understanding of topics like STIs, pregnancy, and mental health and share knowledge about human sexuality. Dr. Paula Valera from Norfil facilitated the workshop. The teachers enlarged their knowledge and understanding of topics on sexuality and gender choices which are important for them to teach their students at Birthright.
Visited Dr. Antonio Rocha, Principal of Muntinlupa National High School to arrange for a seminar for inclusive classroom management and SRHR for high school students. The school has just implemented inclusive classrooms and the teachers have minimal knowledge how to run an inclusive class. A possibility for inclusive classroom management and SRHR for students are programmed for 2024.
